Every journey begins with a single step

Do you have a place where you want to be? A long term or short term goal you would like to achieve? You may be striving to run a marathon, climb the  highest mountain or maybe you just want to shed a bit of weight for that well deserved holiday break.

Some of you may just be contemplating that journey or perhaps you are nearly there but one thing is for sure the hardest part is deciding to take that first step and then not allowing yourself to be beaten whilst you try to get where you want to be.

I have lost count of how many times i have come across people who have no apprant goals or aims in life. I have lost count of how many times someone has said to me that they are going to start some kind of training only to give up when they hit the first hurdle. What i do remember though is that flicker of light and passion in someones eyes when they believe they can do something and that sense of achievement once they reach their goal and have beaten their own self doubt and the barriers to fitness which surround us all.

I believe that one must be moving forward because to stay still and not progress in life is to become stagnant in mind and body, then one day you wake up and realise that life has passed you bye and all that was or could have been can never happen.

There are countless ways to which one can strive to progress, for example to buy the car you always wanted but i am looking at the one most priceless thing that we already have, our own bodies.

So if you ever had a goal no matter how big or how small then tell youself now is the time to achieve it.

For me personally i want to become fitter, stronger and healthier than i have ever been. The way at which i aim to do this is the principles of total fitness. To develop ones self in all areas of fitness which include:
  1. Muscle strength
  2. Muscle endurance
  3. Cardiovascular fitness
  4. Flexibility
  5. Motor skills.
To reach your fitness goal you may only need one of these components of fitness to achieve it but a whole body approach will give you an edge that you never had before.

So if you have a goal then believe in yourself and start that journey, if you are on that journey then keep an open mind to the many ways you can achieve it and if you have not got any goals or aims in life then ask youself what you would like to improve.

Even a journey of a thousand miles begins with that single step so lets start.................
